Who we are?

Welcome. We are Laura and Sergio, a couple of spaniards who seek a place in the world, where to feel like at home and develop our projects. After some time living in Barcelona, we left everything in order to cross the world looking for questions to usual answers, with the aim to know other cultures and lifestyles.

Our Aim

It is simple. We want to change the world by changing ourselves. We want to be happy making others happy. We want to stop being an active part of this occidental system that somebody left for us and make a difference. We believe that other society is possible and that things can change. Find out how in our pages, and help us!

Cooking in Chiang Mai

Thai Cooking Course (21 de 41) As we have mentioned before, Chiang Mai is Thailand’s ideal location for courses of all kinds. But when it comes to choosing a Thai cooking course, things get complicated. Each guest house offers several possibilities, all based on commission. Some are families who open their home to tourists, to teach them what they know. Others are businesses with good reputation and popularity. But the fact is that there are over 20 different companies throughout the city that offer different packages to learn how to cook Thai food.

When it comes to learn everything and then apply it at home, teachers need to be attentive, friendly, speak good English and be dedicated to their sutudents. Obviously they should also have a good knowledge in Thai cooking. All this can be found in Baan Thai Cookery School, a company fully dedicated to the teaching of Thai culinary culture.

Thai Cooking Course (20 de 41)In Baan Thai they have everything prepared, so that in just six hours you can prepare six dishes to choose from a menu with the most exquisite Thai food, and in particular of Chiang Mai.

The day began with a visit to the food market, to learn how to choose the right ingredients, and advicing us on what alternative products should we use back in Europe, for those products only available in Asia. After half an hour touring a real market, buying meat, spices and fruit, we returned to the school to begin the cooking session.

After arranging all the shopping, we started the work. First the main dish: Pad Thai stir-fried noodles , then continued with the famous Chiang Mai-style noodles (special noodles made of wheat and egg), spring rolls, papaya salad (the really spicy one!), Panang Thai curry, and tom-yam soup. Of course we finished with the most famous Thai dessert: Mango sticky rice!

All this from 10am until 4pm, of course having breaks to taste every dish we prepare, all in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Thai Cooking Course (41 de 41)When choosing a cooking school is important to select one where the groups are not too large, to have the teacher aware of your movements. It is also convenient that each group prepares a single dish. Since the only way to learn this art is doing it yourself, it is important that the teacher prepares the same dish in front of the students while explaining the steps, and then guide the studients while they cook.

Some last tips: if you travel to Chiang Mai in high season, it is recomemnded to book a week in advance. Select carefully the dishes you would like to learn, and above all do many, many questions! The Baan Thai team is pleased to show the Thai culinary tradition.
