There’s an island in the middle of the ocean, at such a high latitude that it should be covered by ice but it is not. This is because it has a ring of fire, vulcanos are still active, and a whole geothermal activity keeps the island warmer than it should be.

It has been said to have the entrance to Hell in nordic mythologies (in Sweden, they don’t say “go to hell”, instead they say “go to Hekla”!! Hekla is actually one of the vulcanos of Iceland), and also a direct way to the center of the Earth. It has inspired novels, like the famous book by Jules Verne “A jurney to the center of the earth”, and movies like “The island at the top of the world” by Walt Disney.

Because of its proximity to the North Pole, they spend some months in winter almost in complete dark, which creates an eerie atmosphere -perfect ground for ghosts, spirits, elves, trolls and other mythological creatures. On the other hand, in summer they have three months when the sun never sets, the so called “Midnight Sun”. Icelanders take these months as a perfect time to party the whole night long.

Iceland has indeed a lot to offer: from fiords, to glaciers, vulcanos and thermal waters, an iceberg lake, an incredible nature, cliffs and the famous northern lights, and all in area of 100.000 square kilometers and only 300.000 inhabitants to enjoy it.

Hay una isla en medio del océano, en latitudes tan altas que normalmente debería estar cubierta por hielo, sin embargo no es el caso. Esto es debido a su anillo de fuego, una serie de volcanes todavía activos que en conjunto con su actividad geotérmica mantiene a la isla en una temperatura más cálida de lo normal.

La mitología nórdica cree que alberga la entrada al infierno (en Suecia, no dicen “ir al infierno”, sino “ir a Hekla”!! Hekla es realmente uno de los volcanes de Islandia), y también se cree que tiene la entrada al centro de la tierra. Su orografía y mitología ha inspirado novelas, como el famoso libro de Julio Verne “Viaje al centro de la tierra”, y películas como “La isla del fin del mundo” de Walt Disney.

Debido a su proximidad al Polo Norte, Islandia pasa los meses de invierno casi en completa oscuridad, lo que crea una atmósfera misteriosa -terreno ideal para fantasmas, espíritus, duendes, trolls y otras criaturas mitológicas. Por otro lado, en verano disfrutan de tres meses donde el sol nunca se pone, el llamado “Sol de medianoche”. Los islandeses aprovechan estos meses para salir de fiesta toda la noche.

Islandia tiene mucho que ofrecer: desde fiordos, hasta glaciares, volcanes y aguas termales, un lago de icebergs, naturaleza increíble, acantilados y la famosa Aurora Boreal, todo en un área de 100.000 kilómetros cuadrados y únicamente 300.000 habitantes para disfrutarlo.
